Hey everyone! Can you believe we’re already three-quarters through the year? Before we know it, we’ll be blowing up balloons and shouting ‘Happy New Year!’ So much so that today I am going to be sharing with you some 2025 design trends.

As we move into the new year you are going to start noticing these design elements becoming very popular.

So if you are planning any renovations this year or planning to redecorate it is always a good idea to know what’s trending in design so that you are not making design decisions that date your home.

So let’s fast forward a bit and get right into it.

Accents walls fizzling out

Room For Tuesday

Now a trend that is going to be fizzling out in the world of design, is accent walls.

Accent walls have stack around for a very long time. I have used them so many times, there are actually some accent walls still in my home I am thinking about redoing because they are looking a little bit dated now.

Now the design trend is to go all out with your paint color or wallpaper.

So if you are thinking of adding some bold touch to your space make sure that it is included on every single wall. So instead of painting one wall or wallpapering one wall, go all out and do every single wall.

Now design trends come and go, and just like any trend you don’t have to follow it, but if you did participate in the accent wall trend, maybe consider taking that paint color that you already have and running it around the entire space.

That will bring your space up to date and make it look fresh for the new year.

An alternative to an accent wall could be painting a door.

I think painting your front door on the interior of your home adds a nice pop of color and ties together your color scheme without doing an accent wall.

*** It’s still something that is trending in design and a great idea if you want to add a pop of color.***

Medium-toned Wood Tones

Studio McGee

When it comes to wood tones, in the recent years we have seen a ton of light white oak.

This is very easy to pair with, it brightens up your home, but we are moving towards more mid-toned woods.

Mid-toned woods are becoming so popular, again they are very easy to pair with, they are not too dark, they are not too light, and they bring in a little bit of a rich color.

Finding that perfect mid-toned wood that is not too warm and not too cool is really going to help you pair those paint colors, furniture, and accessories in your home without it clashing.

***For me it is the light-tone wood flooring. It really brightens spaces up and you don’t see dust and dirt on it, so it really stays clean looking longer, and I think it’s just an easy pairing when it comes to bringing in dark wood tones, warm, and cool, it just kind of has it all. So I think if you want to stay safe with your design with your flooring you can still stick with the light tone flooring. ***

Now this does not mean go rip out your flooring and start again just because it is trending, but you will be noticing more mid-toned wood flooring this year.

You can definitely go for it. It is going to be on trend, and it is also a lasting finish (it is not an extreme option like light tone or dark tone wood flooring.)

I think a nice mid-tone wood flooring is a perfect option for that timeless look.

Natural Stones for Countertops and flooring

Kacey Gilpin

Now when it comes to countertops and flooring, a popular choice for 2025 is going to be natural stones.

This is about embracing the weathering and patina that happens with natural stones. The nicks, and the marks, and the dings are all part of the beauty of the stones. It is not about the perfection and sleekness of manufactured choices.

So natural stones all the way.

This would Travertine, Limestone, Slate, Quartzsite, granite, and even marble. All these choices are a little bit porous, they do have a lot more texture in them but that definitely is the stone.

I think it really makes your space look lived-in and warm, and it adds a tone of texture.

This also leans away from the high gloss look that used to be popular. Now we are going for this matte weathered honed look on all the stones that bring out the beauty.

***Natural stones will always be timeless, so it is not a trendy choice to pick a natural stone. It is going to be something that lasts in your home but it is definitely something that is becoming very popular in design trends. ***

You can incorporate natural stone in flooring, countertops, backsplash, wall finishes, and fireplaces to really bring out that textured warmth it is going to add to your design.

Arches

Another design trend that is sticking around for 2025 is arches

Architectural arches, detail arches, and shapes in furniture and décor. If you want to do something in your home that is going to make it look on-trend but also absolutely stunning, arch out a doorway.

This will make your home look detailed and custom instantly. Arches will continue to be popular in design trends (especially architectural arches) so that is definitely a safe choice if you want to spruce up your space.

A design trend that is out with arches this year right now is painted arches. This aligns with accent walls. It is not the year to be painting arches in your home but if you want to add them architecturally or through furniture that’s definitely a good choice.

Arched furniture, cabinets, and mirrors always have a really unique aspect to them and they add a unique shape to your home.

If your room is very square and angular, it is a great idea to bring in something that has a soft effect to it to really even out your space.

modern cottage, English cottage style.

Another interior design trend that has become popular in design and is going to last into 2025 is the modern cottage, English cottage style.

This is a very European look.

A lot of built-in pieces that look like furniture pieces, you will see this a lot in kitchen designs. Built-in arches and inset cabinets have this English cottage look that is timeless and elegant but leans a lot more traditional.

So this is that modern take on that cozy European style that is here to last.

It is absolutely stunning and there is so much detail involved in this style. There is a ton of layering, color, and a timeless effect that feels nostalgic and welcoming but also feels new and fresh.

Jean Stoffer

You will see this everywhere. So if you are planning on redecorating or renovating, lean towards that traditional or transitional look around your home.

Look into the modern cottage or English cottage style for some inspiration.

color palette design trends

Little Greene

In 2025, it is going to be all about a warm color palette.

We are still staying away from those cool gray tones that stuck around for way too long. Now we are into warm tones, especially deep chocolate brown.

Chocolate brown became very popular in fashion and trickled into interior design trends which is no surprise.

If you want to add contrast to your home, a real sense of elegance and warmth, chocolate brown is the way to go. I love the look of chocolate brown furniture I think it looks rich and deep and beautiful which adds a touch of coziness.

Chocolate brown is a very versatile color, so if you have a home that is leaning very gray cool tone, introduce that chocolate brown to help transition into a warm atmosphere.

A great place to start when introducing this trending color into your home is with smaller items.

You could start with throw pillows and throw blankets and transition that into side chairs, ottomans, and benches.

Brown is a color that is always coming and going in design but it is always going to stick around in general because of the wood tones we use.

***So I think it is a technically timeless color when it comes to trendy choices. ***

Quiet luxury

Jean Stoffer

There has been a growing trend in fashion and design to create a quiet luxury look.

This is all about a tailored simple quality design that doesn’t overly display, that doesn’t have a ton of clutter and color and busyness.

This is about creating a simple timeless look that’s forever going to look elegant. So good quality pieces and good quality fabrics that really speak for themselves are exactly what’s going to help create that quiet luxury look.

It’s all about muted color palettes, creams, neutrals, and less details on all of your pieces.

It is all about clan lines and simplicity. I think larger pieces that speak for themselves do a great job in creating this look.

You can create the look of an expensive space by just following those design elements. Simplicity, tailored lines, good quality fabrics, and a great size piece.

monochromatic and monotone spaces.

William Abranowicz

Something new and bold that we are going to be seeing in 2025 are going to be monochromatic and monotone spaces.

This is when your furniture fabric color matches your wall color. So if you have a living room or den or office space, doubling on that color to create a monochromatic effect is very much on trend.

If you have a sofa or sectional against your wall, choosing the exact same color for your wall paint is going to create a monochromatic effect.

*** This works well when you have great fabrics for your furniture. If you’re using velvet, corduroy, linen, or leather, these fabrics really highlight themselves and show really nicely, especially when they are paired up against the exact same color They stand out, they don’t get blurred into the background and they create a really luxurious look. ***

Monochromatic spaces tend to look larger as well because you can’t see definitive lines of where things end.

If you are having a hard time picking paint colors or fabric options, go with the same color and you will get a GORGEOUS effect.

design trends on furniture

I’m always very excited to see what’s happening for the new year because furniture is something that can always change, and right now, the trendy style of furniture to have is sculptural furniture.

You’ll see this in chairs, accent chairs, coffee tables, and even those round sofas. All of these interesting-shaped pieces are coming back right now.

I think sculptural pieces are perfect for people that don’t love a lot of color, and pattern, but want something interesting and that statement.

Sculptural furniture pieces are not about having loud, vibrant fabrics on them. They’re all about embracing the shape of that.

You’ll see a lot of sculptural shaped mirrors, and little décor pieces now, so there is a more affordable, smaller way of adding that on-trend sculptural piece to your home.

Picture Frame Molding

Room For Tuesday

Now, another detail we’re going to be seeing a lot more of is picture frame molding.

***It’s not even really much of a design trend, it’s a very timeless detail to add to your home, something we’ve seen for hundreds of years, and it just makes your space look instantly elegant.

If you have a builder-grade home and it’s looking a little flat and boring, add picture frame molding and it will do the trick.

Picture frame molding pairs beautifully with sculptural furniture and even antique furniture so it is a great detail to add to your home.

***You can do this all across your entire wall, from floor to ceiling, you can do this halfway up your wall, or you can even go ¾ the way up. There are just so many different ways that you can do it, and it will just bring in so much detail and add a ton of dimension to your space. ***

fizzling out design styles.

Creekwood Hill

And lastly, another great new thing that will be trending in 2025 is actually the lack of use of definitive design styles.

Instead of pigeon-holding yourself into one design style, this is about creating an eclectic look that speaks to you.

You can do this by thrifting and antiquing and picking different furniture styles that you truly love and making them work together.

Now there is a kind of way of doing this wrong and it starts to look crazy and chaotic. But there is a way of doing it right.

Picking impactful pieces and mixing them with neutral pieces to create a gorgeous balanced look. Everyone’s spaces will look different. It is all about what speaks to you and highlights your personality and style.

It is definitely not about labeling your space with a specific style and sticking with it. I think this is where design styles come from when you are free to choose just what you love.

I know this might not be for everyone (if you’re not into that eclectic look this might not be for you.)  but if you can’t figure out your design style and you love way too many things, create your own style. Create a space that speaks to you and you’ll end up with a beautiful unique look.
