Paintings and chandeliers are common options for home décor, but as of late, people have been leaning towards plants for a more natural look and feel for their interior decorations.

Really a pop of greenery no matter what time of the year, will add warmth and life to any space. If you are decorating an area of your home and you feel like something is missing, maybe it feels a little bit cold, or like It is missing some life, try adding some greenery in that area.

Plants can really help to complete the space you’re decorating.

However, if you don’t have a lot of light coming into the space you are decorating nor the luxury of time to maintain indoor real plants, artificial plants are a great alternative.

Why so Many Home Owners Use Faux Stems and florals

Besides the aesthetics, there are plenty of reasons why so many homeowners decorate with faux plants, some of these reasons include;

1. They do not release pollens or allergens.

2. They are great for homes with pets that love to chew things.

3. They can be placed in rooms with minimal sunlight without the fear of them dying.

4. They are a great option for people who don’t know much about gardening or don’t have the time to do it – in short, no green thumbs.

5. They’re low maintenance and affordable compared to real plants.

Of course, nothing can beat the real thing, so if you can’t relate to the previous reasons, then go for a real healthy plant.

General Tips When Decorating with Faux stems and florals

Faux florals and stems can be tricky to find because you want them to look as realistic as possible and so it is important to know how to style them.

Here are some great tips for styling your faux stems and floral arrangements.

1. Go Big or Go Home. When you are using faux stems and florals, use that branch in abundance to completely get a fuller and natural look unless you are not going for a full natural look, (which I think you’re).

If you’re going to use faux stems and florals for your space, go big or go home. Not just in height but also in volume which I think is even more important.

2. Get florals and stems that are one and a half to two times taller than as your vessel. Your flowers should be one and a half to two times the height of your vessel.

So if your vessel if your vessel is twelve inches, your flowers should be about 18 to 24 inches above the top of the vessel. If you really want to use a vessel and your florals are too short you can always stuff the vessel at the bottom, (if it is not clear) to give your florals and stems more height.

5. Do not display your faux arrangements in the seasons they don’t grow. Buy your faux flowers in the seasons they grow. I’m going to say that again, do not go looking for cherry blossoms in the fall because you’re not going to find them.

Look for cherry blossoms in February, March, and April. Actually, the sellers of faux plants know that you’re not going to be looking for cherry blossoms in the fall because you’re going to be thinking about sunflowers and that’s what they are going to have on display. Keep that in mind.

4. The other tip is mixing your faux florals with the same season florals. So again you’re not going to mix cherry blossoms with sunflowers, because they grow in two different seasons and you wouldn’t find them naturally together.

5. Another trick to make your faux arrangements look more realistic is to add real branches.

6. Make sure there is a wire in the stems of your faux arrangements so that you can bend and manipulate them to give them the realistic feel of real plants. That way you don’t have to worry about droopy or too tall stems. You can bend them the way you want to make your arrangement look exactly how you want it.

7. Look for faux stems that have a variety of leaf and petal sizes, as well as nubby textured stems. While you want the stems to have a wire and be bendable, check if the stem looks realistic. Look for faux florals and stems with nubby branches—those with little leaf scars, nodes, and budding areas.

These details make the stem look more realistic compared to a flat, smooth stem.
In the best quality faux plants, even the leaves will have some bend or flop, and they will be veined like real leaves.

Before you put your faux arrangements in a vase or whichever vessel you have, take your time take your time to bend each stem to give them a realistic look.

These details will make them look so much more natural.

8. Avoid florals and stems that are too shiny. When your stems are too shiny, they are going to look like plastic and you want to avoid that as much as possible. So look for a softer or matte type finish rather than a shiny or waxy one.

9. Buy the best ones and no one will know they are fake. While nothing can beat the real thing, getting the best faux stems and florals will get you close. and while the best ones aren’t always the cheap ones Remember you get what you pay for, so if you want something that will look and feel like the real thing on your (maybe coffee table) you might need to splurge a little 😉.

You won’t have to water, prune, or throw them away, which is great if you are a bargain hunter. Buy them once, and keep them forever.

10. Get the real feel silks. Faux florals and stems have come a long way over the years, especially with products like real feel silks. When you feel these, they react and feel like natural stems. So that’s one trick to know whether it’s a good quality faux.

11. Before buying faux florals and arrangements, make sure they blend with your décor. Study your interior and exterior décor and choose faux arrangements that blend seamlessly into what you already have.

12. Vary Stem Heights. This will create a more natural, organic look and prevent the floral arrangements from appearing too symmetrical or staged. This approach adds depth and dimension to your arrangement, preventing it from looking flat or one-dimensional.

Place taller stems at the back and shorter stems at the front, or intersperse stems of varying heights throughout the arrangement.

How to Style Faux Stems and Florals for A Realistic Look

zdesignathome

Styling faux stems and florals the right way, really goes a long way. But first things first, what makes faux stems and florals look real?

Textured stems and branches with leaf scars, nodes, and little bumps buds that are coming up look more realistic rather than just  flat smooth stems.

1. Check the petals and leaves and make sure the edges aren’t frayed. You shouldn’t see little bits of fabrics fraying off the ends of your petals, that’s a dead giveaway that they’re fake.

2. For florals, make sure that your flowers are high quality; look for petals and leaves with a range of colors. When you look at real flowers they are usually in most cases not the same color, real flowers usually aren’t the same color all over; the colors often change towards the middle of the petals and the base.

Also, buds don’t open at the same time in nature, so get faux florals with a mix of full blooms and buds.

3. Avoid waxy flowers or stems that are too waxy or too shiny because they’ll just look like plastic.

So, now how do you style your faux arrangements for a realistic, natural look?

Faux florals and stems come in different lengths. You can use longer stems in tall vases or bend them to fit shorter vessels.

Just be sure to use florals and stems with pliable and bendable branches so that you can be able to manipulate them into the desired shape you like.

Mix your Faux arrangements with fresh ones, and with high quality faux stems you won’t even notice the difference. You can mix them in the same vase or put faux flowers in one vase and fresh ones in another, then display them together in the same arrangement.

Bend your stems at different lengths so they aren’t all the same height in your vase. Some parts of your arrangement should be higher than others to give it fullness and scale.

Using faux stems like eucalyptus will draw your eye around the arrangement, allowing you to appreciate all its beauty.

Just like in any design, using odd numbers is always a good idea. Arranging an odd number of stems (like 3, 5, or 7) adds interest and character to your arrangements, helping you achieve the right height and scale.
